Hi!

I like that a LOT :D So, I have a mooch, and here you go, seen another one for £95 inc del. I like the multistripe ones, or just a cream one would be nice on a white westy.

Looks like you will need to make up brackets and drill into the side of the van, looking at the instagram picture. You may be able to fashion up a gutter fixing, similar to the picture, but without the holes being drilled - using the lower part of the bracket that you can see the scres in - this could just help support the weight and stop the gutter from flexing if you see what I mean - and be quick to take off if it's gutter mounted.

Make up a good bracket, I'll buy a pair of you ;)

Cheers,

Alistair

Hi Alistair, as above thanks for this dude  and thanks for the link. My plan is to attach it to my roof rack (full length when I source one!) with some sort of QR clips for easy on/off. I then don't have to worry about drilling body work or bending gutters etc!

Just found a used one near me with "offers" on ebay, fired an offer to him, will let you know :D

Agreed. There is a lot of weight, way too much for a gutter. Also bear in mind the extra weight if it gets wet, plus anything more than a gentle breeze will cause problems. This is why most camping canopies have either steady bars back to the bottom of the vehicle or use poles and guy ropes.

Looking at the photo I guess the owner of that bus would not be too bothered by some more damage.

You could maybe make up a box section to fit into the jacking points and have poles coming off this to the top of the awning. It wont go anywhere then! Normally fixed solidly to a wall wouldn't be a issue for flexing, but the gutter would suffer if not supported well. Or leave it as it is, and use guy ropes are you would with any other canopy, the fact that this is self supporting isn't a issue

As for it getting wet, you can waterproof fabric, wont hold water then, and you can adjust the angle, so water would run off anyway? It may be a plastic type material anyway? Dunno.

Still love it though...!!

Hi,

According to the ebay link, it's 100% waterproof anyway..

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Primrose-Budget-MANUAL-Garden-PATIO-AWNING-Canopy-SUN-SHADE-Retractable-Shelter-/350806228473?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Conservatory_Patio_bbq_Patio_Covers_Heating&var=&hash=item9062ba3054#ht_4203wt_1001" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Specifications:

Allow 20cm above any door frame and check that when opened the door will not interfere with the awning.

Easy to install - DIY-er can fit one of our awnings within an hour or two and easy to remove for winter storage if required
Easy to project/retract the awning
Comes with winder
Hard-wearing waterproof 300 gsm polyester
Easy maintenance, easy to clean with sponge and cloth.
Aluminium roller: 68mm diameter
Aluminium front bar: 32mm diameter
Steel torsion bar: 35mm x 35mm
Awning arms manufactured in forged aluminium. Arm angle can be adjusted by up to 30-40 degrees
Twin steel cables are passed through the articulated joint, this allows heavy tension in the arms.
Complete wall brackets and expansion bolts (power coated)
Electrostatically powder coated finish, to ensure longevity

I think a suitable set of fixings, and this would be a winner. How do the caravan/motorhome units fix on, you may be able to buy one of their fixing kits.
