I've been asked to go and work at another depot that means doing 100 miles a day round trip.
I'm currently debating on whether to use the bay for this or just buy an old escort diesel van.
The bay does about 20-25 MPG where as the knackered escort would do about 45 MPG.
I've been offered an escort fr about £200, its got TAX & MOT and i only need something for about 3 months.
Cant decide whether to go for the van or use the bay?

Thats what i think is best, could always scrap the heap o ***** when i've finished with it, probably get my money back as well

buy the van, use for 3 months then flog it or at worst scrap it, will save cost of van and insurace in fuel AND it saves buggering up your bus!!

gotto agree, although I like the idea of using the bus daily 100 mile round trip is not prudent get the piece of crap your likely to get the money back to be honest...

Buy the banger and save your bus, then when the banger dies buy another one, cheap to ensure and if you get it with 6 - 12 monthes tax no probs  8)

Hopefully i've found something thats also a VW :D OK its a Vento (MK3 golf with a boot :( ) but a mate is having trouble with it and was going to scrap it  , its got a couple of months MOT and i think the problem is irratic starting (doesn;t like the wet - Fuel pump relay anyone?) i have offered him the scrap value (£40/50) so just awaiting an answer

Couple of things, not convinced that a knackered Escort Diesel would do 45mpg if it really is knackered.

Depending on the age of the Vento be wary, poor starting in the wet/cold is often down to a failed MAF sensor which the ecu relies on to give the right air to fueling ratio etc, may be more costly than you think to put right these used to be really expensive but I think they have come down in price lately

Not heard from my mate about the Vento so thats the cheap option gone  and as for the van there more expensive than i thought but got 2 weeks to find something also not really bothered about how much MPG as nearly everything will be more economical than the bay  also the company are going to pay my petrol so im after something that runs for miles on pittance hence thinking of a diesel van, might even run it on bio-diesel if i can find somewhere local 8)

How cheap are caddy's (like the one Ant just bought - below)?

Can look pretty sweet - provided you keep them subtle ;)

My bus is my only working vehicle, and averages more than 50 miles a journey...

I should have done another 100 or more miles in the next 36 hours 8)

I already do a 40 mile a day round journey but its mostly on motorways where as the 100 miles a day round jorney i will soon have to amek is mainly A roads so more work for the bay.
Worst case scenario i use the bay until i find something

Well i must apologuise to my mate  i hadn't heard anything becasue the Vento was at a garage having the starting problem sorted, they reckon they have fixed it and i'm still paying scrap value for it so :D :D :D :D :D :D

Finally collected the Vento yesterday :D its nothing special and i daren't touch the bodywork for fear of something falling off  but it runs and is Tax'd and MOT'd until end of April.
Think when the MOT is up i will either scrap it (dont forget i saved it from the scrap man  ) or sell it for spares & repairs, should make my cash back

post a photo of it then?

A better you;ll get something back when you have finished with it, either on ebay or VZI

Drove it today to work and back (40 miles round trip) and to be honest if it wasn't for the bodywork it would be a decent daily, engine nice and smooth (1.8 carb) gearbox nice and tight, handles good. Might even be tempted to try it for an MOT, a bit of filler to hide the worst of the corossion and it might just survive  :winking0060: :whip:
