It quite obviously doesn't look like a 1970 model year...

Maybe it was first registered in 1970?

That looks like a post 1975 van apart from the obvious indicators bumpers rear lights and air intakes it has no petrol flap over the filler and the engine lid catch is made of black plastic. It has the later front wheel archs and separete lock on the sliding door. Also has the very late engine lid and hinges .So i would say 1975/1976 van
Cheers chris

1973 at the earliest i would say and i cant see it being sat in a vw compound for a year or two before being registered, it would be more plausable if it was a low light half moon vent early on say an L plate73. :?

As Panel van says has all the features of a late bay?

Could the documents be wrong :?

This van was being flogged on eBay a while ago - the guy made no bones about the fact that the Polish reg docs were wrong and that the DVLA didn't do any further checks when it was registered here. I reported it to eBay and the listing was pulled - I'd do it again too.

I've said it before, but vans like this threaten our 'Historic Vehicle' status - the seller is a chancer and I wouldn't trust him further than I could kick him.

It's a late bay, plain and simple. End of.

;)

Bet its more like the vin number has been swapped for a 1970.. bet if you look hard enough there ill be a number giving exact date..

M plate is on centre heater tube at front on late bays so have a good dig there..

but to me as panalvan said it's a late van.

Its a late bay, no arguement.

Or to be more acurate, a wrong un  Earliest it would be, very late 73.

Equally scandalous, equally wrong - that's ringing by any other name.

But as my post said - the guy selling it told me that the original Polish docs were wrong.

;)

ringa ding ding  i think they call it tax evasion it just looks odd with a h plate on it. you would have thought they would have registered it on a later plate to make it look like a very early but still tax free late bay

thanks for the comments guys and erm guys!!!

its not for sale...its already been bought by someone in our club from a 'local dealer' down this waynot from ebay....
and although its not an EB... its their pride and joy and as newbies... they are just concerned that the may have been flooked over somewhat!!!!!!

but thanks again.....

No no no no no! its either a ringer or a dvla cock up!
just open the engine lid n look at the chassis number, there will either be a dodgy welded number on it or its been ground off altogether!
vans like this make me angry as like J+M said it treatens all our tax exempt perks
Grrrrrrrrrrrrr

on a side note people buying polish vans should be uber careful, i know a few people who have been caught out, one guy i know handed nearly 20k over for a samba with totally dodgy paperwork :x
just cos its in a forgien language dont mean its legit! buyers beware im afraid

your friends may end up in a bit of trouble if they get a tug by the old bill or if n when they try to sell it on. they need to think about this seriously, it could come back to haunt them :?

I think they should go back and chat to the dealer, there's something wrong here.

in all fairness if the DVLA have put their stamp on the docs then its 100% legit. We know its not but as far as the law is concerned it is. Virtually every import i bring in gets "checked" by the DVLA and they do make mistakes now and then. At the end of the day they are looking for dodgy vehicles and if there inspector approves then end of story. 100% legit in the eyes of the law. I must add that i do NOT condone this but heyho good for the owner who doesn`t have to pay tax....ssssssshhhhhhhh everyone. The more people that report this the more likely that we will all lose our tax exempt status on our genuine vehicles.

Made in the 70's for sure BUT there's no way its a 1970 model.
I'd say somewhere around 74-76.
