Fitting ICTs with the filter stand in place

Same as ^^ if you part cut through the strengthening ribs it'll bend up out the way a treat. If needed again bend back and weld bung some weld on it.. JS

New Bus Blues...Where to get a replacement engine & gearbox

Well I'll be blowed.. of course it makes sense now - so critical for road safety

New Bus Blues...Where to get a replacement engine & gearbox

Call me a cynic but not sure of a few things here.. For instance since when was the 'steering lock' part of the MOT, unless of course you mean excessive play on the box an drag links etc.. Also a generator fault is nowt to do with MOT either AFAI AND my MOT'er never goes on a 'test drive'...

    Earlybay/latebay steering boxes

Great question. AFAIK coupling is the same. bolt pattern onto frame is different and drop arm ?? not sure As I think you are inferring an early to late box swap could solve a lot of ball-ache. In fact I'm sure it's been done by someone here - did you search all the steering box postings ...

    Fridge Flue assembley advice

UPDATE - Did some more web browsing and think i have some answers.. Small black gaskety thing is I think the anti-blow-out 'valve' and hangs onto a peg on the second casting which implies that is on the outside of the van as originally thought.. .. am I getting close ? ! Cheers JS PS...

    Fridge Flue assembley advice

Hi All Merry new year etc.. Re-jigging the interior of the bus and about to fit (one of  )the RM122 fridges I've had laying about for a year, but.. here's the parts and I'm after some advice on how it goes together.. The blue circled bit fits to the top of then flue pipe, and then...

    Rust under the Windscreen

^^^ WHS ^^^ It's bad enough that it needs tackling I would say. If the van is stored outside it will only get worse quickly a lead to further water damage e.g. onto the fusebox, flasher units etc.. and also get internal panels wet and rusty. This windscreen bit must be poor designn costhey...

    Crankcase

I think as long as it's a dual relief case then you'll be fine. IIRC the earlier single relief cases had narrower bore oil ways which I believe makes tem less suitable for big-bore, high stress engines. JS

    Winter project lists

Top of my list would be * check and adjust all parts of the braking system. Over the years I think I have replaced all the pipes, flexis and solids, and most of the wheel cylinders and resealed the master. * next I would grease up all points of the front beam and the rear suspension. *If...

I need someone who can weld

With my limited experience I would say that welding is 90% prep. If you are confident enough to cut off the old panels you and your welder will be able to check there's actually anything to weld to or (as is often case) more remedial work underneath is needed.. If you can do decent prep then...

    1600 rebuild

Wow ! that's a lot of stuff and obviously at the top end of what Paul & Theresa might need. Replacing the oil pump has got to be a good idea, but I see a lot on the list is new aftermarket bits which you wouldn't necessarily need for a basic rebuild. New standard B&P from JK are just 150 for...

Engine guru's needed, cam and rocker selection.

Fair cop, as I was typing I figured I would get hauled for that  Good luck with the build Westy, pics of WIP would be cool. JS

Engine guru's needed, cam and rocker selection.

Might be better posting your high tune engine Qs at thesamba.com or Vzi too. I get the impression that not too many folk on here (self included) would build anything with a FK series cam. BTW what's your budget for this engine ? I expect you know it gets real pricey real quick.. Is the case...

    1600 rebuild

Hi First stop Tom Wilson book how to rebuild youraircooled VW engine.. Next assess what needs doing... Minimum could be simply new bearings, crank polish, new rings, gasket set, valves re-lapped, and change from 100 quid. Worst case crankcase needs machining (align bore and thrust cut)...
