I've started getting things in motion for a meaty 2110 for the bus. Got various bits and pieces so far but still need to decide on what cam & rockers to run. The goal for the engine is to be a motorway stormer but with plenty of poke to show up the chav's. Was thinking of an Engle FK 8 with 1.4 rockers, was would the engine nuts among you suggest?

Might be better posting your high tune engine Qs at thesamba.com or Vzi too. I get the impression that not too many folk on here (self included) would build anything with a FK series cam.

BTW what's your budget for this engine ? I expect you know it gets real pricey real quick..
Is the case new ?

That will work fine. It will give you something ideal for a bus and will work with stock size valves to give high gas flow for better low down torque.

The ratio rockers on the bolt up rocker shaft would need HD springs (not doubles). This would in turn mean HD ally or chrome molly pushrods. You will also probably need some wide mouth pushrod tubes.

Slipper foot rockers with lash caps on the valve stems work well with this set-up :)

I guess you will be running a nice pair of twin choke carbs and a large bore 4 into 1 exhaust too.

Yeah I've got some Weber 40 IDF's and a ceramic merged mondo exhaust :D

I haven't got a budget as such, gonna collect parts here and there until I have everything, So however much it cost to build a solid 2110. The engine builder I'm getting to build it says he gets a discount on top notch components :-D

I do

Fair cop, as I was typing I figured I would get hauled for that

Good luck with the build Westy, pics of WIP would be cool.

Ps. to my previous post re camshaft choice - Obviously it depends on your needs and driving style but personally I prefer the FK7 rather than the FK 8 on a bus since it is calmer and gives nice torque, all be it less top end but then I am not a fan of revving these engines and quick quarter mile times. I prefer the lugging power that makes for relaxed cruising and not having to ghange down on inclines. :)

I will admit that I'm gonna to give this motor a hiding from time to time although 1/4 mile runs aren't on the agenda. So I reckon that an FK 8 will be the kiddie from the responses on here and what the engine builder has said.

Cheers

Looking forward to hearing how it turns out :)

What crank and cylinders are you using

Karl, don't forgot all the little bits and pieces like Tru Arc clips and copper slip gaskets. All helps.

Hi Ollie

Remind me what true arc clips are, am I right in thinking that they replace gudgen pin circlips?

I've contacted Hector and he said he'll build it some I'm sure he'll point me in the right direction :)

Barrels & pistons: Mahle 90.5 forged
Crank: Either a CB performance or Scat 82mm stroker.

Was meant to be getting a new AS41 case already cut to 90.5 on back order but there I was told yesterday saying there is a supply issue :-(

Piston clips, yeah Hector always uses them so he'll know what to go for. Actually why are you asking on here, he knows more about VW engines than anyone on the planet - you're in safe hands with him!

Yeah that's what Dom said haha. I was just curious as to what set-up's other people use in hi-po bus motors more than anything.

Once the build starts next year I'll get some pics up showing the progress :)

FK43

Run like a champ in my bus, "low" duration for large powerband, huge lift and big valves accelerations for maximum torque.

I use a dual lobe FK43 intake FK7 exhaust custom ground in my 2074 (78*92 thick walled) engine, very nice!

You can check the engine specs & engine build here:

That dual lobe Engle camshaft is pretty damn cool! was it expensive?

Your panel is awesome btw! Seen videos on YouTube :-D

I keep getting bullied to stop being a wimp and go FK89 but am currently running an FK10 and it's a nice smooth all round Cam but has the balls when needed. I Agree with Oli, Hector is a lovely chap and your always best off following your engine builder's choice.
