    sliding door handle help

Cheers guys—I filed it down with a flapdisc, fits great. The only trouble is, I now realise I've been sent the wrong lock—it's an early lock for 2 connecting rods, but my bus has 1 rod and 1 cable. Frustrating as both were pictured on the eBay photo, I was trying to be so careful with the German...

    sliding door handle help

I have another problem. I have replaced my sliding door lock with an identical NOS VW part no. 214 843 653 F (lucky I know): I have replaced the door handle with a new one from Schofield, part no 211-843-703HR (Sliding Door Handle Outer with Keys, 68-73): The door handle spindle will not...

    Rear view interior mirror

Hijacking this with related info—is my rear view mirror correct? Is my roof hole missing something? Here is the hole in my roof: ...and here is my interior mirror fixing: Since I replaced the roof (from a 68-71 bus) it now seems like this is too small and it won't grip the hole (TWSS).

    Rear bumper orientation

The answer, of course, is that the centre line should be below the mounting bolts, and you simply bend your brackets to fit your incredibly bent 50 year old bumper, or vice-versa.

    Rear bumper orientation

If I flip it the other way up (centre line below mounting bolts), my brackets don't fit, the angle is wrong. If I need to hammer the brackets I will—just wanted to check!

    Rear bumper orientation

I think I've had mine on upside down—just trying to fit some corner brackets and they will only line up if I flip the bumper, is this photo correct: Centre line crease is *above* the mounting points

    Front windscreen replacement?

If you want a dual-zone heated screen, there is a company in Bromsgrove that may have one left: https://www.uroglas.com/

Where is the VIN number stamped not on a plate

"The chassis number is on the chassis plate on the bulkhead behind the off-side cab seat, on the M code plate on the bulkhead behind the near-side cab seat and stamped into the engine bay metalwork to the right of the engine by the battery tray." Source: (thread link) @sparkywig

Where is the VIN number stamped not on a plate

Mine are stamped on an aluminium plate which is riveted to the panel behind the driver's seat—correct me if I'm wrong but I believe this is standard practice?

Help needed Where do I stick my pipes?

In my '71 bus I don't have any breather pipes running on the ceiling of the engine bay (unless they're hidden above the insulation) and "H" (inlet vacuum takeoff) is connected to my air filter—is this wrong? I don't have a "C" connection on my air filter either. I'm just starting to investigate...

pop pop bang! rough running engine! Help needed :-)

Interested to hear others' opinions on this, but I would go with BOSCH, Schofield sells them (£29): https://www.alanhschofield.com/ourparts/prod_6062333-Ignition-Coil-12volt-Bosch-211905105.html Same one in blue (well, silver with a blue sticker, £42)...

Initial engine break-in setup — running rough

It works!!! It's coughing and spluttering a bit but I've definitely got advance (both kinds) and it's got the power I expected! I'm absolutely buzzing I love my bus!

Initial engine break-in setup — running rough

I'd love to invest in a decent dizzy/ignition setup but I'm getting married in a fortnight and just need to get it working ASAP so it can take center stage! 😅 What would you recommend @Graham L —pertronix?

Initial engine break-in setup — running rough

Unfortunately not, it's a powespark or accuspark SVDA—handily powerspark are 10 mins away from me in Bromsgrove, I doubt they are open today (Bank Holiday) but going to head over now just in case!

Initial engine break-in setup — running rough

It was the compression tester! Getting over 145psi on all cylinders now using the new one! What a relief. I suspect the dizzy was sticking so I wasn't getting any vacuum advance OR any mechanical advance. I've got a spare 009 I can throw in tomorrow for a test drive while I get an SVDA sorted...

Initial engine break-in setup — running rough

I've tried sucking on the dizzy vacuum pipe and it takes all my might to move the advance even after lubricating everything and manually opening/closing it to get it as loose as possible, so I either need to strip it all down or bite the bullet and get a new one. At least that's likely one issue...

Initial engine break-in setup — running rough

Thanks all—I appreciate your time and thoughts! I have an SVDA fitted with electronic ignition, it was only a cheap one bought from eBay or MegaBug about 12 years ago, but it's barely done any miles at all. I've seen Accuspark ones on eBay for £70 (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/182163969108) so...
