Do I just pull the rear view interior mirror to take it off??

Put it in the hole at a right angle to how it sits and twist it down to the final fixed position.

This was the advice given to me by Who a few years ago to replace mine. I couldn’t work out how to link that post. So I take it to remove you just twist.

Yes, it’s like a mangled triangular effort that sits in the metalwork. So grab it by the neck and not the mirror. Gently tap it with your palm to the left then to the right, once you’ve seen it move, just twist and it’ll come off in your hand, it don’t matter which way, installation is just the reverse.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,, easier than it sounds

Spot on guys, was just about to give it a good tug!! Then thought I'll come and see if any one has replied glad I did.

Hijacking this with related info—is my rear view mirror correct? Is my roof hole missing something?

Here is the hole in my roof:

Since I replaced the roof (from a 68-71 bus) it now seems like this is too small and it won't grip the hole (TWSS).

I think thats a Beetle mirror, bus is a triangular shape instead of the flat piece

The 2 screws are the clue!!!

The 1968 & early-1969 VW Type 2 interior rear-view mirror is retained by two screws.

The late-1969 VW Type 2 long-stemmed interior rear-view mirror & 1970~79 VW Type 2 short-stemmed interior rear-view mirror are retained by a spring-loaded socket in the cab ceiling.

I have a late-1969 VW Type 2 long-stemmed interior rear-view mirror & associated pair of non-cut-out sun visors, substituted into my 1973 VW Type 2 Westfalia Continental; requiring no modifications to my vehicle.

The longer mirror-stem, enables me to see further rearward through the rear window; aided by the rear-window wiper & washer system during filthy, wet weather.
