I've got a puncher in one of my tyres. So took it to ATS to get them to see if they could repair it.

The chap asked what the wheel was off, so I said a 1970 VW. He looked at the tyres and said that they were tubeless (which they are tubeless radials). He then went on to say that the rims didn't a groove to hold the bead in place and should run tubes, but they can no longer fit them as the law has changed? :?

Anyone had the same problem? Is it correct? What tyres should I be running with steels?

I looking to change to alloys soon, but just wanted to be able to move the bus round without having to pump the tyre up each time

Thanks Si

I had one put in a bus tyre recently by a 'more local' tyre fitter ..

He though it was safe to do .. just advised to put it on the rear just in case ..

Put a post up here, and no one thought it a real problem as some of the guys have tubes in theirs ..

I'm running tubeless tyres on my 5x205 original steels, and i know a couple of guys who do the same with no probs at all.
I know about the groove to hold the tubeless tyres but regulations are very mild here in Holland, and tubes are not forbidden too :D

As above - always had tubeless on our original 14" steels.

Although last time bloke did use sealant around the edges - and couldn't balance them either.

May be about to get some 15" 356 style from Midland wheels - what are my 14" original 205's worth, complete with nearly new commercial tyres...?

I reckon they all make the rules up as they go along. Kwikfit near me won't even fit a tyre unless they supply it

I had a set of tyres (part worn) fitted to my stock rims by kwikfit with no issues.
