I never took all the hardware out of my driver door when I painted the bus. I just took the handles off. Now that the buss is back together the door will not open from the outside, and is hard to open from the inside. Any ideas? I shortened the length on the inner handle pull rod and that helped a little, but you still have to pull the inside lever almost 90 degrees before the door opens. The outside handle will not pop the latch no mater how far in you push the button. I have the one off 1968 doors.

You will need to sort out the door locks. It is badly worn and glued with 40 year old grease that has dried out. Take the lock out of the door soak it in diesel or similar and wash out all traces of lubricant. Examine the mech carefully and analyse the action, we had to build up worn parts with weld to get ours working. Once sorted they work fine. Lubricate them properly with grease and keep them that way by oiling on every service. To get replacements was impossible when we tried but that was 2 years ago.

I turns out the actual lock mechanism was just severely worn down. I had to weld metal back onto the handle and all is great now.
