Looking on Ebay and other suppliers it seems there is only one type of regulator comonly available, and it is marked as 30a only on some sites, and 30a and 38a on other sites...

My dynamo is 38a. Would a lower rate regulator burn out, or just deliver less current to the battery/bus, or does anyone know from experience if this
part does work OK with 38a (part no 9190040099e )

Many Thanks

Old VW guys tell me that it's no problem using a 30A regulator with a 38A dynamo. But you only get the 30 A output. Must admit i sold the bus dynamo and swapped to a 50A generator (still with external regulator). The 38A dynamo is perfect for at upright conversion on a type4 engine, as it is a bit longer.

Thanks Ronnie, in fact the old reg was rated at 30A, it was none original, non Bosch, mechanical, but been in for my 10 years of ownership, and from the state of it a lot longer than that. The new solid state Bosch (30A) seems to do the job fine, no fires yet....
