Wow Alex i feel honoureed you have posted on my thread mate  .The 13 is next pal but im all in love witht this westy.

Rusty, the van is amazing! I feel a bit of a fraud having got mine just about done after all the work you've put in! Think I'm going to have to brush up on my spannermanship. Your van has made me re-think painting mine though, decided that patina OG Montana Red is the way to go. Also re-thinking the BRM's after seeing your wheels....do they fit on the wide 5?

Keep it coming tho...great work :D

Well it was febuary so I guess that was end of winter hey.

Steve Ross starts third Wednesday of may mate so put that in your diary

Fantastic looking bus.

Been following it eagerly in the 'makes it look simple' belief that it will help me not be too daunted tackling mine....

Couple of quick questions on the brakes, which calipers did you use, 120-6816? And what length lines have you run to them? Stock length or is that not going to be a good plan?

Ta!

Ta!

I've got 120-6816s just about ready to fit now!!
Just sorting bearings in hubs & caliper adaptors....
would also like to know what lines you used, do you still have a hard line going in to the caliper?

cheers guys.seems these wilwoods have started a trend hey.will have to check the numbers on the box thats in the workshop but they are 120 something so your prob right.they are the dinolight range.i had some braded hoses made at a local motorsport place who builds rally cars, they are flexi and about 50mm shorter than stock ones.if your making your own or get some made make sure you get the correct fitting on the caliper end as its a tapered thread and slightly different pitch compared to the ones on the vw hoses.

Think Wilwoods are the future! And they look sexy too. But that's just coincidence. :)

Cheers for the heads up on the caliper fitting for the brake lines, original plan was to start by just trying stock hoses and seeing how baggy / tight they were. Didn't occur to me they'd be different!

yes the thread in the caliper is slightly different although stock hoses to wind in part the way they wont be anygood they will blow out.on the caliper there will be a sticker saying the thread size im sure its 1/8th NPT.if there is any measurements or pic you want just let me know.the only down side to these calipers is there is no dust seals on them but for the amount we use these buses im sure they will last a life time anyway.

Lee.....

It's good to see a set done and installed.

Knew about the dust seals but like you I figure that for the high day and holidays use the bus will get it shouldn't be an issue.

Alright for photos and that for now, got to find my hubs first: they've been stashed somewhere in the garage since we moved (7 yrs!) so may take some digging out. Know the calipers are seized anyway so figured may as well go with the wilwoods.

Also decided today that may be simpler to make brackets for my 71 spindles rather than go with the original plan of swapping for earlier ones. Odds that I've made my life more difficult?!?

ha ha get digging mate.sure it wont be too hard to get um on the 71 spindles

I cheated and got a set of late bay adaptors & bearing spacers from Lanner at vdubengineering in Canada, haven't trial fitted them yet, but i'm hoping the only mod required will be due to the difference in size of the original caliper bolts (m12 on crossover rather than m14 on late) that will attach the adaptor to the spindle. Might just get the spindle holes enlarged & retapped.

I'm up for cheating if it works 8) , let me know how it you get on!

Right, best let Lee have his thread back now before it turns into a Wilwood technical thread.
