ive just got my van on the road after a long resto,it has fully rebuilt engine .

the first prob is that sometimes when driving i get a nock from the rear that gets faster when i go faster and slower when i go slower, only sometimes tho?

2nd, is when i go to start it up say after ive stalled in like a numpty at the lights,it starts but sounds like the starter is strugleing and makes a funny knoking noice, once started it runs sweet(this only hapens when its warm)

any ideas ?????

the first problem. is it when you build up speed or when you build up rpm's? is it a tinny knocking or a more substantial knocking?
my guess (not an expert or owt) could either be fan knocking (tinny sound) or pre ignition (more substantial) these are only guesses i am not yoda

it sounds like if eash time the drive shaft goes round it knocks on something, hasent done it for a day os so now ,just does now and again, loud enough to hear it in the cab and feel it thru the pedels

cant be doin any good whatever it is!

have a poke round underneath check every thing, engine, gearbox, cv joints. or try volkszone! ask on there

Check you drive shaft bolts are not loose. Then grab the drive shaft & try to twist it back & forth by hand. See if there is any play in them. You may need a nw CV joint or two. I have had these before when the gearbox itself can make a loud banging noise.

Your second problem could be either a moody starter motor or the brass starter motor bush in the gearbox. It might be worth changing the bush as they are cheap as chips before changing the motor. There is an easy way to do it if you don't have the tool, by running a tap into it & it will pull it out.

I had something similar once - I hadn't tightened up the rear hubs on the tapered splines sufficiently after renewing the shoes.

Cheers

James
