I can't afford brand new twin webbers

I'm running twin 34 ICT's for just over a year now - setup once, altough a little lumpy when really cold but after a mile or 2 are great.

Maybe try and find a good 2nd hand pair?

Think theres someone on the dark side (VZI  ) that rebuilds solex's. Not sure who but i'm sure if you try a search you should find them (hink it someone like bug julie?)

good luck and let us know how you get on, I tried a couple of people (guy on the samba and a lady on Vzi) but both weren't rebuilding any when I asked - went for a new one and rebuilt and old bocar...still on the original one that came with my engine

What problems Ash? I've rebuilt a few old Solexs now and not have any problems.

i have some wanky carb, that runs like cac, i've had loads of people try to set it up but all say the same, its no good. Wanted to buy a rebuilt solex or buy a solex and have it rebuilt. I'm too scruffy to rebuild  it would be full of spray paint and grit and *** nubs.

You got a good one to sell dude ?

Sorry not at the moment, I stripped the last one to use the parts in my Oval. They come up fairly often though, like £10 for the carb and a rebuild kit is about £8.

always worries me buying second hand carbs, i thinking its my only option really

I've had to buy a pair of new 34's as the emulsion tubes blocked on the pre-owned ones I had. Bit of a f*cker to replace, so the carbs are scrap.

Were they seized in the carbs?

They're corroded in. Managed to get one out, but trashed the body.
Not even EuroCarb could get the other out.

That's pretty impressive!

I got a re-ferbed carb of someone from from hear. (think there on Vzi aswell) it's a solex 30PICT - 2 worked well for a few weeks then started leaking petrol. I ended up stripping it all down again and fitting new seals. Works fine now.

Im really no good at mechanics but had a look on http://www.vw-resource.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; got a re-build kit for £10ish and just followed the instructions. It really was very easy. Im sure you could do it and feel great after.
Setting up the carb I struggled with, so ended up running it down to my local vw man and it was done in 5 minutes. He put some machine thing :? on it to help set it up correctly.

Get yourself a good used 34 pict 3, just make sure its a bus one, jets can differ from bus to bugs.

Just ask if the throttle shaft is worn, and that the mixture screw has not been jambed home as this make it a bitch to set the mixture, as for getting it rebuilt, send it to me with a rebuild kit and I will do it for free.

Also you need to consider which distributor you are running with the carb, carbs and dissys are designed to work as a pair, fit and early dissy with a later carb and the spark advance maybe to quick.

Or if your close by and you can drop in I will have a look at your set up and see if it is the carb that the problem, and not some thing like fuel pressure, dissy etc.

New Webers go for stupid money tbh, but i picked up a pair genuine Italian Weber 40 IDF's for £150 from 8ballbug on here.
Jets, air correctors and vent's etc came to £25ish, £70 for Bugpack manifolds, £90 for the linkage and £50 for the K'N filters.
£385 compared to the £600+ a new kit costs and now Webers are built in Spain :?

So which refurb kit? The JK one looks like it's just a few O-rings (or is that right?). I have stripped my carb down and cleaned it, and it seemed fine. But the bus ran like a dog this morning (2*C).

Mind you, it would have helped if I'd closed the engine lid  I had to go and flick the throttle stop round a bit, as it flooded, and stupidly left the lid open....

I love driving mine in the cold really, as the cold air is denser it makes the van go like fook :D

yes i know i need to grow up :D

Do a search on here for laurie/lawrie ellis. He rebuilt my solex and i'm very happy with the results. It cost about £100 but is an excellent job.
