Steels imo too, a kombi is the base model and the steels reflect that, slammed with shiny wheels for the masses.

Slammed on steels for the coniseur

This is how last night went with my daughter, aged 27 months... I think she's got the VW bug already..!

She’s sat in her high chair just finished her dinner and suddenly out of the blue starts talking about my bus...

“Daddy’s bus in garage” (repeat x 4 or 5 times)

“Daddy’s bus broken, daddy fix bus” (repeat x 4 or 5 times)

“Daddy go outside and fix bus now!” (repeat x 4 or 5 times)

“I want to see Daddy’s bus”

So we go outside to the garage to see the bus.. she has to look inside it too...

On the way back into the house – Daughter crying because she wants to stay out in the garage with the bus a bit longer – “I help Daddy fix Bus.. I help fix the wheels”

And once back inside the house “ I help Daddy fix bus, I help fix doors, I help fix wheels”

So cute, and all completely unprovoked, we weren’t at all talking about the bus at the time... (for a change!!)

Front Bumper re-assembled this evening with new joining strips, new step rubbers (both from Custom and Commercial) and a new set of Stainless Steel bolts bought for me by my SiL..

I bought the spot lamp at VoWo in 2012, it is held on by a no-drill bracket bought from 'Doris'

I've been having a tinker this evening for as long as I could brave the cold!

I've removed the late bay headlights and fitted RHD US spec early bay lights.. These are domed like they should be and have the chrome ring around the outside, whereas the late bay ones are flat and chromeless..

Late bay:

It's not much, but it's progress all the same... I've never built up an engine before so I'm reading the instructions very carefully and taking it slowly and steadily...

After a dusting down this is what I started with.. it's a 'new' refurbished 1641 long block..

This evening I installed the oil cooler, removed the repro dizzy and installed a Bosch 009 with pertronix ignition fitted and fitted the fuel pump:

Its been quite a productive weekend all in all...

Started of by replacing 3 of the 4 pushrod tubes on one side ( 3 had managed to get damaged while moving the engine about previously), then I went on to prepare, mask and primer my engine bay:

This is how it was when I started, I etch primed it sometime ago..

I cleaned it all up, and prepped it some more, masked it all up and got busy with the high build primer:

Looking good Shorty....how's the motor coming on? Ben

Well....

It did have most of the tinware on, but I took it all back off again yesterday so I could replace 3 push rod tubes.. Won't take long to out it all back together... Figured I needed to get on with the engine bay first /at the same time!

Correct me if I'm wrong but i'm sure the bits of tin in-between the barrels go on the bottom, someone I'm sure will confirm or call me a numpty.... ;)
There is so many bits to the tin & variations, it's like all things vintage VW a pain in the ring.....keep smiling butt !! :D

This is something that needs to be done with my engine bay for sure!
Coming on slowly but surely Shorty.
Nice one!

Hope to do some more this week...

Collected my paint on Friday... No good to me in the can so I've spread it all over the engine bay... Gotta say, I pleased as punch with the results given I'm a total amateur who had used rattle cans to do this... It's no professional job, but its not a bad place to keep your engine!!
