I bet if you called C&C and said you had a £1200 order to place and were willing to shop around or be tempted by a bit of discount then they'd do their best to win that order... depends what you're buying mind, as some bits are going to have more margin to play with than others.

Shaun @ JK sorted a discount out for me on an order. Worth a shot to compare :)

£1200 is a big order really. I guess that any company that values positive forum feedback and repeat / referral business is going to have the foresight to offer an incentive.

VW Heritage and Machine 7 are my go-to guys. We get a club discount (http://www.gyvw.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) from Heritage and that's really appreciated. If I was putting in a big order then I wouldn't hesitate to haggle for a moment.

5-10% is nothing compared to the massive proffits these guys make

so if they didn't offer any discount or had factored in stuff already like free delivery.. as i'm sure and know big orders like that can cost a fair amount to ship/pack have already saved you a fair bit, but you would give them a bad name if they hadn't offered a discount on the actual goods to you?

i thought for a minute i was on VZI.

just spoke to c&c as alot of the stuff i want is from them and they asked me to email the basket over

fingers crossed.i asked if they would give me the 15%volksworld collection offer and they said no

hopefully they will come back with a good offer.

Last year I spent a large sum with JK and got a healthy discount.

i wouldent out right expect anything from anywhere as all these people are in it to make MONEY just like i am when i get up every day and go to work. if they have massive margins and are making loads there there doing it right imo.

but it dosent hurt to ask  if its worth it to them then they will adjust the price,if it isent worth it then they wont.

lets hope they will

Probably just a simple mix up between profit and turnover, easily done :)

While we don't offer a flat X% discount, if people get in touchwith Shaun with a large order we can go through on a case by case basis for the customer and work something out for them specifically which essentially gives them a tailored discount.
We did have a real look at implementing a flat percentage discount, but with about 8,000+ (off the top of my head) products in stock it was an absolute nightmare to get a price that was meaningful and financially sustainable for the whole range of parts we stock.

I'm always lurking around on the forums (except VZi, that place scares me!) to answer any questions or for people to PM me with questions, and more and more people are asking about discounts and stuff, which is great :D

Anyway, really sorry to derail the thread - Strongy, email Shaun and he'll sort you out ;)

I hope this helps!

thanks, the main reason im using c&c on this occasion is that i like there glass rubbers and i wanted the metel inserts which i dont think you do.but bare the info in mind next time.

reply from c&c after some grovling and mentioning club discount for earlybay.com

Hello Chris

We are just setting up the club discounts at the moment and will be sorting it very soon.
We can put you on the C&C club discount and will give you a discount of 5-10%
If you go online again now and log in you will now see your discounts.

if you place your order now yopu can get the discounts.
Please feel free to let any one know we can set them up on the new C&C Club discount but we have just not had time to contact all the clubs.

Many Thanks
Tim

Still surprises me at work that we have sales guys that mix up percentage markup and GM :(

Seriously though - if a company isn't competitive they don't get the business so have to be keen jn today's market - any discount is good but not giving them isn't a sign if "profiteering" if their pricing is already competitive

Typically in distribution GM is 10% - 30% - if you manufacture or have exclusivity then it is obviously more, but to make it you have capital outlay and to get exclusivity you have to commit in volume - market dictates price

Though you can always ask - most are not offended and I'm not when they decline

Didn't mean any offence or anything, just think you'd be really surprised how many people do mix the two up.

I know nothing about the distribution business but if your gross margin is averaging 20% then to make much on the bottom line you must need to watch the costs of the business and generate significant levels of turnover. :?: :?:

As for haggling people I find people in the UK pretty reticent to do it ... just not British

I wasn`t having a dig @ JK or you Josh it was a general comment

I know companies have to make a decent profit to reinvest etc etc . not sure what part suppliers mark up is but i would have thought if someone had 1200 quid to spunk on vw parts then for me 5-10% isn`t going to entice me in , sure for 30 quid you would be lucky to get free postage .

Times are hard and i think generaly most people want there monies worth .

again my 2 pennies worth .
