Went away in the van last Saturday to New Quay (Wales) for the week, about 120 miles, after 50 miles the clutch went CLUNK (no other way to describe it) and i only had half a clutch pedal, biting point right at the bottom and crunching every gear. Managed to adjust the cable slighty to give me a fighting chance, but 5 miles from our destination the pedal hit the floor and stayed there. Had to jump start it in gear and drive the rest of the way hoping no-one needed me to stop or give way.
Got recovered home tonight and curiousity got the better of me so i droppped the engine and
The clutch release arm was shot to peices, the arms had both broken off, the release bearing fell into peices and the clutch spring plate is knackered, the pad on the end of the spring plate is non existant, luckily the fly wheel looks good

Did i remember readin reading somewhere that you can fit a later style release arm?
I need a complete new clutch (and the later style is cheaper) so is it possible?
Need to order the parts ASAP, so wheres the best place to order from?

Holly F**k.

Your lucky the input shafts ok, would fit a heavy duty release arm if I were you. I new stck were suposed to be have weak welds but that takes the piss.

There was someone making a early to late conversion but yours is fubared so the full late set up from GSF or any of the aftermarket HD should be ok or even stock and check the welds out before fitting

Managed to get all the parts from Kingfishers, just finished fitting everything and now its roadworthy again 8)
Also changed manifold boots as they were shot and now it seems to be running a lot better

Looks like a **** quality clutch tbh, i'm a mechanic on cars, hgv's and plant. I've never seen that on anything, EVER! When i fitted a motor to my bay, i fitted a heavy-duty kennedy kit in it. I would reconmened it for a hard working bus

The original clutch was an LUK so it wasn't a cheap nasty kit, the kit i've just fitted was a SACHS so again not a cheap copy.
To be honest though it was the clutch release arm failure that caused all the damage not a clutch failure
