any advice on these?

would a 1641 set put into my 1600 sp engine make much difference?

would i need to add anything else?

if a good idea, any particular makes/versions to go for?

an extra 50ccs aint going to make a lot more hp,but as the small boy said as he peed in the sea ,every little helps ;) fitting tp heads as well as good twin carbs and exhaust give extra 10?+hp.threads on here about this, have a look.

In a word, Yes, 1641 will make a difference, Not a vast difference, but a difference non the less!

They are a straightforward replacement for stock 1600 Bs & Ps you wont need anything
else (other than a gasket set obviously). You can of course start going TP heads, twin carbs ect....
but where do you stop? The real question is what do you want and how much have you got to
spend?

Some people are weary of overheating issues with 1641's due to the barrell wall being thinner
than stock. However, I used to run a 1641 with stock ported heads a 4 into 1 exhaust 009 dizzy and
a stock 30PICT carb. It was a nice torquey little engine, never gave any problems and noticeably quicker
than a stock 1600 TP.

As for what type, AAA, Mahle & Klobenschmidt? seem to be common makes, forged are generally
better than cast, but dont worry too much about that, just buy what you can afford. :D

go for it, its cheap and may just help a touch, how old are the current set or dont you know? the good thing about the SP is you can flow the heads get them matched to the inlet and outlet manifolds without too many issues, that'll help in the gas flow passing through and assist in the scavengeing process with less turbulence going on in there....

whilst your there grind the valves in and polish the pistons and heads up, a cheap and cheerful refresh

is this somthing you can do your self?

you could certainly de-coke the heads, re seat the valves, de-oke and polish the pistons. thats easy for sure. if you have a good eye for detail and are careful you do a very basic deburr of the heads too, look for sharpe burrs in the ports and combustion chamber this will certainly get rid of pre-detionation.. far from a porting job but if your not done it, i wouldnt try with your heads unless you got spares !

Will you balls notice the difference in 41ccs. What people notice the difference is the compression of wanked out old B+Ps and brand new ones.
If the bores are ok you could always just change the rings and then spend your cash making a more noticeable improvement, TP heads, decent exhaust, twin carbs etc....
