belly pans

My van has`nt got any belly pans down the centre between the chassis rails but the sides ie outriggers are covered in , these side covers [pans] seem to be welded on . After hearing about other peoples horrors with covered up rot , I was wondering about removing the side covers. Is it a good idear, if so how , do they have any structural significance. :?

remove them and see if there is any rot underneath. you can always put them back on if all is ok.

^^^WHS - they're not structural so should be OK (there's an M-Code for belly pans so presumably they were an option?

Get em off and keep em off. They are a huge rust trap. It is an afternoons work wit a disc cutter and cold chisel. My '68 looked like the one above, it was a supposed rust free import from Karmann Konnection.

i took mine of and it took me a year to get it back on the road.

i whish this was the only thing i found

this was the best bit,patches over patches over paches,they all had to come of ,it was on its side for the whole of summer 2006

was worth it in the end tho
