Hi all, I've read loads recently about various paints and under seals etc but I'm still at a loss as to what is gonna be best for what I need, I've got the beam off the bus and front belly pan, there are some areas of surface rust on the chasis, some flaking underseal, some not so flakey, some corrosion on the very bottom of the front panel that needs protecting and also will be some fresh weld to protect!
I was gonna slap some hammerite on but apparently it's not too good, the epoxy mastic seems to be the best stuff but needs to go on clean metal and it's not very clean!!

Any advice?

Yeah I have been reading about that but seems it needs to be onto clean metal. Not sure I can get all the old understand off and debris and factory paint

Then some wax oil over the high abrasion areas, like wheel arches etc.

That sounds good! And water based too which is un usual, have you used it to good results?

Yeah, I've used 3 tins of it. Used it on my old beetle and put two coats all under the bus.. Painted a few bits on different cars too etc..

Its decent stuff, pretty cheap. I remember reading about it the first time I bought a tin and it said it was formulated/designed for the MOD. (Just looked for where it said that and I can't find it now, typical...)

Does it work though?

Well I had my beetle 2 years, I painted all the wheel arches and pans when I first got it and the underside paint looked no different when I sold it.. Well, other than being a bit dirtier.

Plus, that car was used daily through two winters....
