Can this be replaced or have I buggered it, I had a look at the spares I have and oddly every single one was broken off too! Any advise guys?

I tapped mine in gently with a screwdriver and hammer, they're a tension fit(if that makes sense)

This has gone from bad to worst, I just can't find these clips for sale anywhere, van been off the road a fortnight now because of a tiny clip :(

The parts catalogue lists the part numbers as

211-609-485A for wide five 205 PCD
211-609-485B for 112 PCD

Phoned megabug none in stock

First one I ordered came from VW Heritage looked like this

4CE38A50-3518-4A75-B53F-CF60A4E9E0A6-1656-000000B43BB8528F_zps648f3bc8.jpg

Way to long and big and suited to the star adjusters in the V-shape.
This turns out to be 211-609-485B despite ordering the A and they had their stock messed up and didn't have a A's for sale..
A lot of sellers (JK for example) list the B as suiting T2 63-79 do please beware as this is WRONG!

I've search high and low for the early A version and found a few sellers listing a different part number one digit different most sellers list this as for Early Beetles but some list it has being for the Bay up to 1970

211-609-185A

So I took a chance and ordered it up and again too long and not the right shape, although a lot close then the previous one.

So basically I can't find one, the annoying thing is there is nothing wrong with the backing plate, it is solid and in shape so would ideally like to fix the problem. I also can't find any backing plates for sale anyway

On searching I have also read loads of threads from people saying they ran theirs without a clip for years with no problems so i'm wondering whether to do that until I find a replacement?

Just in case anyone can help the one I need it about 48mm long

Hi fella after reading you original post I thought it was high time I changed the locking tab on my rear drum as the bugger kept backing off so it had lost its tension anyhow a long time ago I purchased a couple if tabs from megabug but like you when I came to fit it was too long so I sliced approx 10 mm out from the flat side bits not the middle and welded it back together And it works a treat ;) it was a little fiddlely but ok and it's a s strong as ... I do have some proper length ones on order from just kampers which I have been told will be here in 2 weeks

I've been using the bus regular for last few weeks no problems , I will know if it fails by how much the handbrake pulls out to :D you can run without but i think its worth cutting and welding one up till they become available again otherwise you'll be adjusting brakes every week or so

The one I welded looked like the second picture
