Gday everyone,

Just needed some paint colour help, I have a 71 bay and the body colour is Neptune blue L50k but I'm not sure what the bumper origianl colour should be?

I think it should be Pastel white L90D is this correct?

Next question is about the steel wheel colour, is it silver or should they match the bumper colour. My Bus is being painted in the next few weeks once all the welding is done and don't know what the colours should be so any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Simon

I found a set of NOS wheels for my '71 Westy with original silver color on them (not painted) this is what they look like, hope this helps.

Hiya Simon,

I'm thinking that the white you are after may well be L581 Cloud White, but I do not know that for an absolute fact.

Up until model year 1970 the white border was on the roof gutter and the white was Cloud White L581.
The border moved down to the swage line for the 1970 model.

For 1971 models the white was Pastel White L90D.

Interestingly until the colour line moved the whole bus was painted in the body colour and the roof then sprayed white if ordered. After 1970 the whole bus was painted white and then the bottom colour added after.

Wide 5 wheels were Cloud White.
Late wheels were Silver L91

Bumpers and badges were in the same white as body colour.
Hubcaps were either, Grey Silver L90X or option M181 for chrome.

Wow thanks for all your quick replies, good picture of your reflection in the hub cap, ib-bus!!!!

Here is what my bus looked like when i first bought it and just a year ago - http://forum.earlybay.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4801" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So to clarify, the bumpers and front badge will have been pastel white L90D? my wheels are silver at the moment and when I pant them they still should be silver L91?

Jason, where did you learn this great info. The most I know is about the M codes.....!!!!

Cheers

Errm kind of, I went to Scarborough Breeze with the LVC lot, and I am on their forum now and again, but have not made it to any meets yet, but I need to as I have borrowed someones axel stands! You got my attention as there is a Biscuit who's quite an active member (maybe founder) of LVC.

The other Biscuit type person is Pete, he has the split pick up Green and light green. Really nice guy and very chatty! I am with the harrogate club mostly as there are more campers in the club and we go on camping trips and visit weekend shows etc. together...Take a look at our forum, free to reg and nice bunch of people. http://www.hdvwclub.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I'm biscuit on there too!!!!!

I think she (Peta ;) ) has sold the split, was it a single cab? Tho I could be wrong! Now has a new beetle and is STILL restoring Biscuit the 1303s.

I will have a look at the HDVWClub site, keep your eye open for me ;)

All correct!

The Microbus Spec Guide is brilliant if you are trying to keep a bus stock!
