Cab doors: cheapness v quality

I need a couple of doors for my '70 Bay and have been comparing prices on JustKampers, my question is this; are Brazilian made doors (the ones I can happily afford!) really that bad compared to the more expensive ones that would hurt my wallet?

Any experiences? Opinions?

Don't buy new! Buy imported used ones
There are a number of places that sell them including Graham L on here, fbivw etc
Much better quality than new.

^This. I recently tried and gave up trying to get a pair of new old style cab door to fit. On one, I could get my fingers in the a-post gap, though there was room at the b-post to shut the door. The bottom near the step was curved in 10mm too curly. The other wasn't tall enough! Lined up the bottom gaps and the swage and there was 10-12mm gap at the top. A-post gap again too big, though I couldn't get my fingers in.

I replaced them with a pair of import doors from Spike on here that I bought same time as my own bus. They fit like a glove - no shims. Perfect tight gaps. 2-3mm at the A-post, the right shape ans tall enough! OK there's more work to be done on them, but small price to pay!

Just my experience. I've previously fitted the same from when they were made in Brazil and they fitted a treat. "shielsey" on LB has a pair of the older brazillian ones without the pressing along the bottom he wants to sell. Join up and PM him? I'd still say get some imports though.

I got my replacement doors from FBI and I can't praise them enough. The doors were in excellent condition just as described and were shipped well packed, they are also nice guys to boot. I would definately use them again 8)

Well, I beg to differ.

I have a 1 owner Westy, the nice type like FSH, low miles, OG paint, original bill of sale BUT when getting it resprayed (40years is a long time for paint) I opted for new VW doors and got these painted, fitted up and swapped over.

They fit well and am happy with them plus no prep and were new. That said in an ideal world I would have probably got the original doors repainted but I simply did not have the time and who is going to check that they are not perfectly correct for year? (the new doors have vent holes in the front closed section)

If you do fit new remember the pop up for the interior lock needs welding up, the door release lever sits ever so slightly further forward and the holes for the winder mech need opening out to 6.5mm as come as 5mm. Oh, and lastly the 1/4 window rivets in place instead of screwing in place (that might explain the holes for the winder mech)

Nothing wrong with new but if you do want some original doors not off a scrapper in the states you might just see some nice OG doors on for sale
