Heading down to Newquay area in August for a week and we are looking for a coastal campsite which allows open fires. Not keen on family friendly commercial sites but then these don't normally allow fires anyway. Anyone recommend any?

Have seen Treago Farm campsite in Crantock (http://www.treagofarm.co.uk/) which may be the site Easy was referring to with the 3 wooden huts for hire...? but I don't believe they allow fires...

Cheers for your thoughts

we spent last friday at this place, ok for families & couples, really nice clean site with a bar :D :D :D :D , not sure about fires though :!: are you a pyromaniac    then if so next to a fire station would be best.

Treago farm is the bigger place on the right of the site picture. I go to the smaller one on the left. (I know the owner  ) It has less convieniences but is a few yards closer to the beach and is a great atmosphere and they sell Organic home grown veg  They dont do open fires tho im afraid. 8)

Smaller and less conveniences - translates to less kids, sounds more like my thing!! You don't know how much they charge 'normal' punters do you, and what's the site called?

We walk past Bobs site when we go down to cornwall, the wife remembers staying there as a kid. Polly Joke beach is nice and quiet, spend half a day there then walk round the headlands to the Bogie, have a pint or 2 and maybe a hot meal (although its a bit commercial now) then walk up the road and back onto the camp site.
We know Crantock well as the wifes family own a little shack on Gustory Road.

There's a list of camp sites that allow fires here http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/articles/view.asp?id=4 if that is of any use.......? :)

Yeah thanks, I have seen the ukcampsite website, there is also a list on thehappycamper.co.uk but neither show any around Newquay so looks like I'll have to make do with the BBQ - maybe a sly fire on the beach if the urge rises

Will get on the phones this afternoon and if anyone is interested I'll post availability - if I find any!? :?

Not having kids I didn't realise how quickly campsites get booked up in the summer holidays!!

I have now reduced my requirements, no more fires and no more Newquay!

Can anyone recommend a cmapsite on the West Cornish Coast that may have availability for one camper in second week of August? Anywhere between Padstow and Lands End? Campsites near a beach and with nearby attractions - just incase I am no good at surfing!!

leaving it late but theres usually plenty of turn up and pitch for a odd night places right down that coast line....

"71 dorma" try the one I put on above, a £6 taxi ride gets you into newquay and you can always look around when you get down there for other places, they did have some space about a fortnight ago, Good luck

we have found this on the net, that we intend to have a couple of nights on in august. it sounds right up your street, but sadly not in newquay. its near penzance.

Yeah have seen this one, they allow fires!! But do they accept vans? Have you spoken to them?

Thanks all for your help. I managed to get booked into a small site at Trebarbar nr St Colombs Minor, also got booked into Cottage Farm at Cubert I think - must remember to cancel that one!

No fires unfortunately :( or at least the website doesn't say they allow fires, but it's closer to Newquay/Watergate bay than I thought I would get!

Booked in Monday 11th to Saturday 16th August, will be my first attempt at surfing!

good luck dood! 8)
