So today the camper made aloud bang from the exhaust. i presume this was because the carb needed cleaning. I took the carb off and the top of the distributer. cleaned the carb put it all back together and put the distrubiter back on. Now its not starting. a friend said i may have knocked the timing out which is why it isnt starting how true is this??

Unlikely, you checked the distributor cap is seated properly in the grooves?

Would of only knocked the timing off if dizzy clamp was loose and the dizzy turned a bit when removing the cap maybe ? If it ran ok before I woukd be looking at the carb if you have messed with it ?
as for a bang on the exhaust may be a bit of a leak on it somewhere ?

Did you take dizzy out, if so have you got it seated correctley and flush. Did you put the rotor arm back on ? Has the lead from dizzy cap pluged into the coil come out when you took cap off or wire from dizzy to minus on coil come off or main live feed to positive side of coil come off ? If you have points dizzy put a test light between minus on coil and earth and hand turn engine to your timing mark on pully usually 7.5 bftc and looking in dizzy centre notch on rotor arm should line up with notch on inside face of dizzy and test light should light up. Hope you solve problem.
