Thinking of buying my father in-law a Chromebook, he's always calling me up with issues on his PC, be it viruses, imcompatability issues, driver issues, browser problems you name it I've sorted it. It has got the point where I'm considering buying him a Chromebook, no windows, no virus ***** to contend with and hopefully no more hedaches for me.

All he wants to do is browse the internet, pick up his email, watch videos, youtube, facebook etc... does anyone have any pro's con's for a Chromebook?

Cheers

Never tried it, but ive got an ipad and a mini ipad, got an ipad for my mum (shes73) and its perfect for those things, without all the windows ********. Opens up in seconds and is uber easy to use / navigate. 8)

Expensive but worth the cash imo

My mate works in IT and he told me that's exactly what they're for.

Hmmm, just read you can't plug a printer in, only print to a cloud enabled printer or via a Pc or Mac with a chrome browser. Not a biggie but something to take in account

Must be a few more cons.

Loads of printers are wifi enabled now dood, so not to worry ;)

I was a beta tester for the chrome books - fantastic for instant Internet access without worrying about any operating system - the batteries last for absolutely ages and boots in seconds as most are solid state drives

What's not to like :)

Also, if his email address is already a Google one he's set to go.

I'm with Easy on this one, the IPad is the way to go. It is so reliable and effective. IPad2 £329.

We have 3 IPads in the house and they are always in use.

I work with and sell Apple systems and for that reason i have an Android based 10" tablet (for variety). Its a generic Taiwan one, but its quad core, has loads of memory with the option od sd expansion, runs the latest version Android and has all the bells and whistles, bluetooth, wireless N, has an excellent capacitive high def screen etc. all for under £200. I cant fault it.

I think Android offers far better value for money, but for ease of use and reliability at the moment apple works for me.

I do have the issue that once you are hooked in by apple you are very limited to their products, but if they work well and save me time then I can just about cope with cost (2xrule).
