Hi all

Clutch cable broke and have got a repacement from VW Heritage, correct spec for year and measured it against the original before fitting. Followed the instructions as per Bentley manual and for what ever reason the cable does not appear to be long enough and I cannot get the wing nut on at the clutch lever end. :?:

How much play should there be at the clutch lever end - as I am not getting much and wonder if something more serious has occured with the clutch?

Many thanks

Free play at lever is only a few mil which is around 2 cm at the pedal.

Is the flexi pipe between the conduit and the gearbox correctly seated?

Yes it is.

I think I may have cracked it:

This time I did not bolt the lower pedal mechanism to the chassis to give me extra length at the clutch lever end. I have the wing nut on but the threaded rod is not all the way through. I then returned to front end and managed to bolt the pedal mechanism altogether and it works. My only concern is the number of threads the wing nut is on probably 5 turns, but it is seating in the clutch lever so in theory should not undo. I suspect over time this will need tightening as the cable stretches?

Is this normal - first time I have ever done this!

5 full turns sounds quite a bit. I wouldn't worry.

If it strectches then you'll have plenty of adjustent left !
