coffee and cars......

....i was watching this american series about a bloke who buys and sells rare classics in the states....
the show was pretty average but there was this one bit were he attended this monthly event called coffee and cars...and i thought it would be a great idea to try over here.....

basically one sunday morning every month, literally hundreds of classic owners get their rides out and meet at a drive in coffee house (starbucks i think it was) and just drink coffee and chat and look at rad rides!!!

literally hundreds turn out for it and they get up real early doors and start arriving from about 7 in the morning. they fill the car park and then are gone by lunchtime!! it doesnt cost anything apart from fuel and coffee!!! all manner of vehicles turn up...its not specific to just one 'scene'.... its just a opp for like minded classic car enthusiasts to meet and perv over each others cars....

its would be an awesome idea but i cant think of anywhere this side of the pond that has a coffee shop with a huge car park.... but you could open it up to anything....dubs, mgs, mopars, hotrods, minis, porsches, fords, jags, astons.... whatever....anything 'classic'

Lots of 'chums' out in their supercars I would imagine but I'm sure you could stir things up a bit with some old buses .

i was going to suggest goodwood too. they change their categories a bit each year but i've managed to get the camper in the main bit a couple of times.

used to head over to Hull for outcast club meet there is a starbucks on st andrews quay which shares a carpark with a whole retail park and iv never seen iot full. we have filled out quite a chunk of it before though.

there is one at the drive through at the Krispy Kreme Near New Malden, think it's tyhe 3rd sunday every month. more a hot rod than vw thing but you get a bit of everything there!

Ace cafe is a bit far for some of us down in the deep south west.

that's kind of the issue here - distance and time to do that distance

when I was over at my mates in OC, there was a car night every thurs I think at fuddruckers, again a retail park job and it was heaving, the 2 weeks we were there, I'd say 50% of the cars changed ie not all the same people turned out.

My point is there was a chevy wagon, monster biturbo motor'd, show winning look...this bloke drove 250miles for the 3 or so hours, it blew me away. [And the fact he had obviously been ragging it as every bit of the exhaust and brakes were 'pinging', and the fact this car must've been 60k$ I would guess? he just parked up, opened the bonnet and doors and wandered off with his mate!!]

but when I was talking to him, safety and moral aspects aside he said the 250miles had taken him a shade over 3hrs :shock: - I do cornwall quite regularly and it's 295 door to door the quickest I have managed is 4hrs 5mins and that wasn't done at the national speed limit....
so should people wish to risk it they can get somewhere quicker than here....so attract more bodies...plus the americans for all their faults do have unfathomable passion and 'yeee hah'. Another example is my good friend he would travel to sacremento from OC to drag race then go home sunday - ready for work on the monday again. It's 430miles or something [it took us 5 and a bit hours in a hire G6 :shock: ]

so as usual we do do it here but just in the controlled british way :lol:

Might be worth a roll if I ever get this bus back on the road,, it seems like ages now,, (nearly 4 days) and missing all this sunshine too, :shock:
