Right i've decided to convert my rear brakes from narrow five to wide five (like it should be originally)

I'm after a bit of advice on what parts i can use from my current set up and what i'd need to source. I know i'll need wide 5 drums but its the other bits i'm unsure of.

Cheers, Sam

Hi Sam, check out http://forum.earlybay.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=17923" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for a good thread on how to do the rears the other way round. so I guess, it's the reverse?.

Cheers

So i think i need drum brakes, backing plates, and 68-70 stub axles.

Can anyone confirm this or name anything i've missed?

Hi Sam, I'm not 100% certain, as in the post I mentioned to convert the other way a tapped hole was drilled out, so in reverse, this means that it may need to be tapped? Need "expert" input on this one I think ;)

Cheers, Nick

no expert  but I think you could get away with just stub axles and the right mix of internal bits - the opposite to the bits mentions on my thread I'm guessing...

apparantly [ I say this as I haven't taken my early and late apart yet] the bearings and the backing plates are ok - they may not be the same but will work with either stub axle?

when I do I'll post up some more pics.......

I was thinking of saving my early rear stuff in case I ever wanted to revert - another reason I bought a 70 beam so I could use the arms and all the outer bits to goto wide5.
I expect in reality I won't and they'll be for sale - snag is even in a good wind - this won't be until end of Jan2011 !!

creative engineering do a 205 pcd hub that fits 112pcd gubbins. not cheap, but might be food for thought, considering used 205 stuff is probably worn out?

Yeah that seems to be the most straight foward method

Cheers.
