Cost to Repaint a New Dormobile Pop Top Roof?

Evening all.

I would appreciate other member's thoughts on whether £595 for labour and materials is a fair price to pay to paint over the gel coat finish on a brand new Dormobile roof? This would include low bake primer and a Pastel White top coat.

Is pastel white very much different from the gel coat? I just got a new cap as well and I intend to leave it as is.

Pastel White is creamier. The standard Dormobile roof cap is closer in colour to cloud white (early bay bumper and roof white). Certainly appears to be a cheaper option to stick with stock but I can't go back now. Just need to suss out if the invoiced price that I received is fair.

As somebody has said elsewhere, price is subject to supply and demand.

It sounds like it is a little late in the day to question the cost, given that the work is now done.

It is probably more appropriate now to ask yourself whether you are completely satisfied with the quality of the work done and whether, all things considered, you would recommend the paint shop to a friend. If the answer is 'no' to either question, then you have probably paid over the odds.

It took me a long time to get over how much my resto cost me, and now I just try to squeeze every inch of value out of the bus by using her whenever I can.

I guess it is a subjective issue and I have to agree with you that I now have to suck up the cost and just enjoy the restored van. The finish looks fine so I can't grumble with the work done. It has been an expensive journey and I will certainly use this as experience, should I ever venture down the restoration route again.

Others have basically answered but...

When it comes to paint you get what you pay for. You could probably have had it painted for less but the finish wont have been as good as you should get with the price you are paying.

The painting part is the easy bit (relatively) but the finish is only as good as the prep work and this is where the money goes in time and effort.

So long as the finish is spot on then I dont think the cost is high.

To put it into context I have the wifes car sprayed, an area no larger than a sheet of 15 paper. It cost me £250 but it went to someone I trust and the finish was spot on. I could have got a scratch away matey in a van to come to my house and paint the area for less than half that.

I have a roof that needs sanding back and painting I was quoted £600. Fair price really for the amount of work needed
