So I've measured my crankshaft and I have got, 39.93' 54.9, 54.94, 54.9.

Are these within allowable range, I've just bought a set of standard bearings, my engine guy seems to think that they are perfectly fine but I thought I'd ask the forum for a second opinion

I feared this was the case, it looked like I may be on the phone to machine 7 in the morning buying a new crank!

You could always get it reground another 0.25mm there are plenty of main bearing sets for this spec and you have another 2 steps of regrind left before it falls out of spec. The quality of an original crank may be better than an aftermarket one assuming the run-out is fine. Of course, buying new means you can step up to a forged counterweighted crank if you want.

Thanks for the help, I've bought a new vw original crank, I was lying in bed thinking about it so I bit the bullet
