Thinking of doing the conversion on my Dec69 Bus.
Any good?
Any problems encountered?
Much better stopping power than my warped drums?
Vented, cross drilled or standard?
Best place to buy?
 
i assume your ball joint? just bolt on a later bay setup at a fraction of the price. FBI sell complete front disc setups refurbed for around £215, you will need to check out the servo assisted 'thingy-ma-jiggy' fitted on front disc bays.
 
I fitted them on a '65 splitty, much better braking (obviously), no more adjusting shoes. Great. :D

They are expensive though and the kit had caliper bolts that were far too long - but Machine7
were aware of this and had the right bolts in the post before we had even spotted the problem.

Machine7 are probably best to get the (standard) kit from. :wink:
 
I have used the CSP kit 3 times now on my 52 (servo'ed), 60 and now on my 69. They really improve breaking and are superb quality and easily fitted.

Machine 7 are great and always willing to help.

Agreed. I have recently done this, converted to all post '73 brakes all the way around. Cost me £30 for a pair of second hand calipers and front hubs from a bloke in the pub and £190 for a full late rear drums, hubs and carriers. Then about another £120 on top for all the stuff like new discs, bearings, caliper overhaul kits and such like. The next thing to do is fit T25 rear shoes and auto adjusters and hopefully a Creative Engineering servo conversion. Worth every penny, the stopping power is fantastic and the consumables are as cheap as chips in comparison to drums. The thing that worries me about these aftermarket wide 5 disc conversions is, how available are the spares? The spares for mine are available from any motor factors, anywhere. How easy is it to get CSP spares? I'd hate to be in the position where brake bits won't be available for six weeks because they are on back order.
 
I understand the worries over spares but Machine 7 have assured me they have no problems with CSP and stock the complete range of spares.
Is a servo uneccessary with the CSP conversion?
I'm looking at the x drilled model which allows me to run my steel 356 wheels.
Do Creative do a conversion too?
 
Hi folks, new member here, have a 1970 Danbury. Have a few questions on this topic as doing the same thing. Have read around this subject but don't have firm answer. I am going to use a CSP kit, keep my wide 5's, but have dropped spindles (by others). Understand late bay master cylinder is to be needed, as advised by CSP. I think i have covered all the bases but understand dropped spindles cause the wheels to project slightly, then using the CSP does the same.

Does anyone know if this is correct? Could this cause any problems? I think overall we are only talking 15mm per side. Thanks in advance
 
what dropped spindles can you get and use wide 5 disc brake kt. everything I read tells me I cant do it cause you have to use newer calipers and discs. I want to drop my 70 campmobile (it sits too high) but dont want to change rims style and everything. I like my OG rims, but drums suck to stop. My legs getting worn out doing a fred flintsone to stop.
