Had a great idea about a year or two ago and it just seemed so simple when I thought of it. The monthly Makro magazine had made an appearance and I look forward to rifleing through it to see if there`s any cheapo tools etc, end of a range type stuff, bought a couple of dremels (copies) with stands and flexi chucks s etc etc for £12 a while back, both the flexis are buggered now  but the little dremel things keep going although one of em screetches a bit but only when it`s switched on  . So get to the back of the mag where all the tools and diy stuff is and there is a proper Youngman loft hatch complete with wooden ladder that is as close as you can get to a stair case as f**k it is to swearing, obviously stairs are better,,, but the heat loss ,, hhmmmmm. So a plan is hatched,, wack the youngman kit into the loft,, raise the joists and beef it up a bit,, floor it out and a load of crap can go up there,, hence,,,, freeing up some space in my garage and a bit more room to work on the bus, it`s all good  A year or so goes by and I`m starting to get quips from Mrs Ozziedog about this little lot being in the way in the back bedroom,, simples I thought,so I move it,, to front box bedroom. Not much later and the moaning starts again, first on a monthly basis and in no time at all it`s full blown on a weekly basis, moan moan moan moan moan :( . So I spring into action this weekend, I`ll just pop this hatch assembly in this morning and go for a drive in the bus this afternoon, and then see what I can do tonight ;) Seems perfect,, so take a few measurements and get a dust sheet or two down and get some steps, quick fag and away we go,, might even have a pint at dinnertime. Rip out some insulation,, just the top layer, let`s have a look,, ooh, there`s some boards under there, just crap nailed in donkeys years ago,, whip them out and take the nails out, and what`s this ???? A trimmer right through the middle of the landing ceiling holding up the ends of the joists from the front and the back , not on top like a binder, just a sneaky little butt jointed trimmer  well we can`t take that out without re supporting the whole lot
I wonder if I can put it round the other way ???? So the opening is partially over the staircase. Yeah,, that shouldn`t be a problem. Just move these other boards and another lorry load of insulation  I`m now starting to get itchy, really itchy and twitchy to go with it. So boards moved , insulation moved, ahhhhh, hmmm, wonder what this wire`s for ?? :? Right,, that`s for the loft lights, and that ones for the ,,,,,, well whatever ! I can cut them later :? Glance at my watch,, it`s now four o`clock,, I was gonna do this job in a couple of hours  I haven`t actually struck a blow in starting it yet :( Ok let`s take some measurements and mark it out,, Yes ,, loads of room here, just move this, cut that, and away we go ! Now there is such a thing as ladder throw out, how far past the vertical edge of the trapdoor that the ladder will pass on it`s arc of going down. Read the instructions,, every measurement of every ladder ever made, but nothing about the throw out apart from it`s measurement B. :? And it`s in the fitting instructions ???
8.30 and I still haven`t cut the hole out. What happened to that pint at dinner time, what happened to having a little drive in the bus :? Start again tomorrow
Right,, got the extension out, got the jiggy,, got some more lights rigged up,, ooohh what`s this then ?? :? Lathe and plaster ceiling, which is bad enough,, tongue and groove ceiling on battens under that and a plastered, board ceiling under that  Oh yeah,,,, I remember plasterboarding and skimming this 15 years ago  Well here we go !!!!!!!!!!!!
