sorry i know this should be in the tech section...but im desperate!!!

i was supposed top be in cornwall 6 hours ago..... but the bus is currently sitting outside the house all packed and ready to go...

BUT....

every time i switch on the sidelights... the fuse blows.
but its strange cos the nearside rear sidelight is on but none of the rest....nor the rear number plate light....
ive looked eveywhere for a short but cant find one.... ive replaced the off side rear side/brake bulb as it had smoked glass like it had blown...but both filaments were intact...

still hasnt fixed it!!!
im tearing my hair out and have gone through i dont know how many fuses....

the main front lights work fine...and so do the brake lights...

and now ive missed the window to get on the campsite.... especially as its 2 hours away....

help!

Have you had your lights off lately? its common to put the sidelight wires back the wrong way round causing the light unit to be live so when you switch the lights on the fuse blows, turn them round and you should be ok.

are you refering to front or rears or both!?!

i havent touched the rears for a long time.... but i did have the fronts out the other day....
im normally quite good a putting them back the right way round... i'll go check...

Any water in the fuse box ? have you done any electrical work latley?

my fusebox isnt really a box.. more of a metal frame.... plus its on the wrong side in comparison to the haynes manual...
but then all the dash wiring is an absolute shambles.... done by the garage the rebuilt it 6 years ago.... all chopped about and tangled up.....

job for the winter i reckon!

Meant the fronts, had the same prob as you described exactly when I bought the van.

I had a fuse keep blowing on the morning of my mot :(
the number plate light contacts were touching the inside of the decklid.
that was quite a bastard to get right

thanks again mate!
