Devon cooker grill gas leak, flame from my knob

Anyone know if there is like a gas seal kit for cookers in Devon Moonraker 71? I had the grill on and flames came out of the grill knob. Scared the crap out of me? Sounds funny tho

I think there's a simple seal on there. Easiest thing is to dismantle and get the old one out for size. Chances are you will be able to find something close enough in a good hardware store.

There's a special grease to reassemble like plumbing grease or failing that some vaseline.

Flames out of your knob is never good news :lol:

I had the same problem on an aftermarket cooker it was my wife that spotted it with the phrase "you're nobs on fire"

Had the same issue with the cannister ones, but hey yours sounds much better. Be careful it doesnt go off in your hand!

There should be a taper tap which you can lubricate with gas grease, Rocol gas grease from RS components is good stuff. Gas cock grease is thicker, giving you a stiffer tap action. Don't put too much on or you will block the low flame holes if you have any. Always check for leaks !!! If the taper is scored chuck it, if you can't get a new tap chuck the cooker.

Would it not be safer to find a specialist who could give the stove a full refurb?

No need, it really is a very simple job to do. Once done, replace all the olives as you reconnect any joints, never re-use an olive, PTFE tape on threaded joints (gas not water, it's thicker) and test it for leaks afterwards with the soapy water method, and after that you can test with a naked flame! I'm not joking either. If you have tested for leaks with soapy water and there is nothing obvious then any leaks after that will be very small and the gas would be under high pressure and would just light like a jet or burner nozzle with no danger. This was recommended to me by a gas safe fitter.

Of course it goes with out saying if you blow yourself up it's not my fault, :lol: if you are in the least bit unsure, have your system tested by a qualified person.
