Hi all

So, on way to Happisburgh yesterday, we kept hearing a loud noise in the back of the van.

Neither of us could fathom what it was, so on we pushed.

And then it happened.

The strong winds lifted the whole bloody roof.

OMG.

The straps I had in had snapped, and whoof, up it went.

So, my question is team, what do use to strap your pop top roof down with???

Its a 1970 Danbury.

Mines a Danbury, I bought some webbing strap off ebay and some ladderlock buckles and made some new straps. Never had a problem with it. Bought it a while ago now so can't find the exact stuff I got but it looks like this stuff: webbing and these:buckles

Had the exact same happen to my Danbury Roof two years ago..... Although I'd not had any strapping on at all prior to that, it was on the M1 and gale force winds.

I now use pedal straps off a bike - the nylon ones which loop around. Work perfectly and offer a high grip level. Also can be replaced easily from bike shops around the UK and Europe.

Like this - http://www.wiggle.co.uk/genetic-single-toe-straps/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I bought 4 for £6. Now it's solid and doesn't budge an inch! Don't know why I didn't do it before.

I've got a 70 Danbury, got webbing straps with a plastic buckle, been ok to date

Why didn't I buy my bus years ago !?

seems like every danbury has done it lol.
I tied mine down with old printer cables at the side of the road, then took it off, sold it and fitted a paris beetles ragtop... not an extreme reaction at all

So what should they have had OG anyone

I would be scared to let anyone use it incase its not strapped down proper.

That is if i ever get the thing out of the body shop

Geordie

Mine has leather straps with buckles, with VW stamped (?) into them, a set of four. I would imagine these are og from Danbury. If not they are well old and still do the job, my roof has never lifted..

Matt would you please forward a pic of them sounds interesting please.

Hi Geordie, hope these come out :

I've got 8 of these, four for the pop top, four to hold back the bunks. As said I assume these would have been from Danbury.

Cheers

Al
