Dropped spindles

I think i will go for teh dropped spindles route when i lower the bus, i was just wondering if all dropped spindles increase teh track by 10mm??

well they do increase track because they are welded, but not all by 10mm some will increase by 12.5mm, i dont know anywhere supplying forged sets would love to though ,

there are several places to get them wagenwest is the main suppliers and Franklins, does anyone else know any suppliers?

I think that T2D are comming up with some bay non-welded dropped spindles?

I went for the link pin beam option, with dropped spindles. My bus now drives like new, and I don't break my back everytime I go over a bump or worry that the chassis is going to snap as the suspension doesn't bottom out anymore.

i would seriously wait and buy these if it was before christmas but i would guess they will be testing on their own machines for a while first. dollar is good from the US atm which is another reason to go that route.

I'm no mechanic, but to have such a key bit of your suspension welded would be a reason to wait for me? or buy your link pin set up from the states!

You'll have to change the beam for a split one, your bay runs ball joints, not a link pin

Linkpin has a greater range of movement over balljoint, can go much lower.

VW only switched as balljoint is almost maintenance free.

The weld if done correctly would actually be the strongest part of the spindle, asked my dad who served his time as a welder on aluminium aircraft frames. He said something like your more likely to get a stress fracture/breakage from a bad casting than a decent weld.

Arent link pins a bitch to setup and take quite alot of maintenance?

I had a look at the bus this morning, i dont think 10mm will really hurt it, im not planing on changing the wheels, the tyres are too good lol

you can alway change tyres to slightly narrower if your not running standard comercials.

He said dropped spindles are due in 3 weeks.
Have asked him for the drop, what year bus they fit, price , disc brakes If wide 5 etc.
Will update when he replies.

The link pin route is expensive but works well, very comfortable ride and SAFE!

I don't think maintenance is a real issue, they are really easy to look after and parts are readily available for any wear and tear. They are used on the new Brazilian buses too.

I'm glad to hear the bus is going lower, which ever route you chose.

i can get a set of wagen west spindles, for £250 delivered!! so may go that way, i cant imagine T2D will be any cheaper than that, and i'm not bothered about the 10mm ectra offset.

i spoke to T2 the other day, they are fitting them to their test vehicles first, price wise around £600 was the figure i remember being mentioned

I can't see many buying a set if they come in around the £600 mark. Thats a lot of dosh for a pair of spindles.

Well i have ordered mine, i have been told they will be sent thouygh email, lets hope i get them before vanfest!!!
