Hi all.
This is my first post on earlybay. Got my first question hoping someone could help. We bought an T2 1972 crossover camper just over a year ago and it's registered with DVLA as a delivery van. My question is does it matter and what would be the reason for not registering it as a camper. We have told our insurance company that it has being converted to a camper and they have said its OK.

Hello, and welcome to the forum.

I think the reason it's registered as a delivery van is because it was.
Your bus is a converted panel van, one way of telling is because the windows are flush with the body sides and have curved glass, factory windowed buses have recessed window frames and flat glass.
The other is if the first 2 digits of the chassis number is 21.
It doesn't matter unless you want to get the V5 changed.

You should have 2 stamped metal plates behind the seat bulkheads, the one behind the driver's seat is the chassis plate. The other plate behind the passenger seat is known as the "M Plate".
If you go to either

http://www.vw-mplate.com/mcode.php

or

https://vw-type2-id.xyz/mplate/decode/

and type your M code plate details in, it will tell you how your bus left the factory.

Excellent that answers my question thank you for much and will check out the numbers..

Thank you

And hi from me too. Some companies actually bought panel vans and converted them to campers as well as cutting windows into the sides, Devon was one such company and Holbrook I think was another. Westfalia on the other hand usually used standard windowed vans in most of their conversions but not all. There were quite a few conversions available back in the day and all around the world too. Wiggy is usually right with M plate details etc.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,RHD and converted panel vans, they’s the bestest
