I'm going to remove the stock mechanical fuel pump on the 1641 that's going in the 71 and replace it with a Huco electric pump.
The question is should I have it running via a dash mounted switch and do I also need to install a g-force activated switch so the pump is disabled if I have an accident?

I believe mine takes its live from the oil pressure switch, which means it only runs when the engine is turning over. I do have an extra manual switch for rare occasions if I haven't run it in a while and the floats are empty

Looks like I feed from the alternator actually, but same principle about engine turning

I wired mine the same as Gvee. Feed from oil pressure switch. I just move the terminal connection between 87 and 87a if I have had it standing for a while (dry float chambers) but yes you can fit a primer switch in place instead.

Having said all that I do have a g-force switch laying around and have considered this for neatness/simpler wiring but then you lose protection if you lose oil pressure... It's all a bit of a toss up.

So, I'm not the greatest fan of this 'ere new fangled elastic-trickery.
Can someone knock me up a wiring diagram so I can get inwardly digest what I need to buy and how I need to set it up.

Just a query, why opt for an electric pump? My 1641 with 36Dells and a fuel pressure regulator works well. What improvement would a leccy pump make?

Being battery driven there is less drag on the engine. In the same way as using an electric fan on a water cooled vehicle, it is only active when needed (i.e. the occasional pump to top up the float chambers). So instead of a constant drag on the engine with 90% of the pumps being bled away through the relief system you have an electric pump that only occasionally ticks up a bit more fuel.

And we all know that these types of mods are worth another 10bhp...

I've got some worry gauges to fit, one of which has a sender in a fuel pump block off.

Wire the inertia cutoff in series with the pump an consider fitting a fuel cutoff solenoid to be on the safe side (mount it by the tank outlet). My inertia switch was from a Rover and obtained from eBay with the pig tail for £10. You will need to mount it vertical to a solid chassis rail somewhere.
