I know this has been done to death but bought one from Heritage fitted it in 10 mins and the transformation is massive. I had changed linkage parts a few months ago so don't know if it would be so good without doing that but the wife will now drive the bus  I am well chuffed don't need to worry on approach to roundabouts etc now

That's exactly my dilemma ... Wife wants to drive the bus when we get it back. She's out and about all day driving with her job and easily a better driver than me ... but I know trying to negotiate 2nd on an approach would scare the hell out of her. Haven't got the cash for a GeneBerg or Bug-tech, so was looking at the EMPI ... your input is greatly appreciated !!

If you mean the hurst style copies, there a good shifter. They have one design flaw of the crap rivets in the base, easily solved by fitting bolts, someone's done it somewhere on the forum with photos. Very good for the price

Most people bad mouth them as they don't take the time to set them up right. even genebergs can be an arse when setting up. But perfect once set

Can I ask, how do you set them up right? Before fitting mine I was unable to hit 1st or second at all, once I fitted the empi it is LOADS better and I can always get first but now on the odd occasion it wont find second, im wary of trying to adjust it as im happy with the fact I get 1st but if I knew how to adjust it I would maybe try.

Cheers.

For gods sake don't take my answer as definite lol, but even moving the base 2mm either direction then retightening can make a big difference. Trial and error really. My geneberg on the beetle wouldn't go into first, moved it 3 mm one way and re-tightened, perfect !

Replacing all the plastic bits on the linkages makes a big difference too

It comes with two spacers. Make sure you use the right one. But as stated it really is a case of centralising then moving mm forward or back as needed. I set it up then had to tap it back a gnats nadger to get 2nd and 4th properly.
