Hi all, I am looking at getting a new 1776 engine either TES (New mexico) or VWH new outright. I am leaning to TES as you now need to pay 300 surcharge with VWH if you dont exchange an old lump. I am looking for a sensible performance increase to keep up with traffic and potentially tour europe with a camping interior. Any thoughts on engine choice.

I have some choices on carbs, I am looking at eurocarb and they have Dual Weber IDF 40 and Dell'orto DRLA 36 kits correctly jetted for very similar prices including csp linkage and K&N filters, I have also been recommended 34 ICTs as well. Any advice on which way to go?

I am also thinking Bugpack 4 into 1 and single quiet pack.

thanks.

Personally I'd go the heritage route as better back up and 2 year warranty from memory and run Dell 36's/CSP Linkage & K&N's

I've been running a heritage 1641 SSP2 (big valve heads, cam etc etc), Dells, CSP & K&N's for over a year and its great,

to get the most outta a 1776 then you should go 40 however the fuel bill will be bigger.
not dissing anyone at all but i would get the heritage motor outta the two chioces there. or get dan to build ya one

jth,

ps been running icts for a while now and they are great they can be jetted to a 1776 although you wont get all the power available using them.

I would go with a nice Vege engine if you have to buy one, as Jon said i would get a reputable builder to get one sorted for you. If you want a quality builder, give me a pm and i will sort you 8)

36's will give you slightly better bottom end pull due to the smaller choke keeping the airflow higher at lower revs. I run them on a 1955cc engine and they are very good and I really don't notice a drop in economy over my old 1600TP with a solex. Speak to Matt at Eurocarbs and tell him what you want the engine to do and he will advise accordingly.

Running IDF 40's on a 2017, plenty of low down torque too. To my astonishment, in normal driving, the mpg went from 25 on the stock 1600 to 28 on this one. I guess the higher compression must be giving better fuel efficiency coupled to lower rpm with longer gear ratios.

Trikky,
What venturi size are you running in the 40's as that is more important.

1776 with 30 venturis will top out around 5000 rpm before the chokes start limiting the power, will be a nice everyday driver.
2ltr on the same would be limited to about 4000 rpm, 35 venturis will get you to 5000 rpm.

Running 28's.

Even using a single idf 40 then a 28 choke is fine until you go over 1800cc - see weber jetting chart.

All depends on what cam, heads and valves, On a mild 1776 36's are the 1! Go heritage, I've had experience with a few TES motors, Make a good door stop...
