Hi all,
Before I start panicking I could do with some advice on what to do next. Started the van up yesterday after laying idle for a couple of weeks over christmas. As usual it started first time. I reversed it out of the garage and after about a minute it cut out and would not start again.

It's turning over ok... All the right lights are coming on at the right time on the dash.. There's about a quarter of a tank of petrol and the battery is fine.

I've checked the distrbutor. Plugs were installed at the start of the summer. Never had this happen before.

Any suggestions on what I should try next would be great

Cheers Martin

have you got a spark after it refuses to start? check this, it can only be fuel or spark if it started, dodgy fuel pump or blocked lines/carb or no spark be methodical.

Tried again this evening... All the right lights coming on...engine turning over but still not starting!
so find out if you have spark or fuel then it's one of them, just 'cos your tank has fuel it don't mean it's getting there...... just 'cos the plugs are new don't mean they're sparking.

Pull off fuel line and see if its pumping fuel, blocked jet?
i'm not a fan or knowlegeable on type 1 engines (mines a fype 4) so check your fuel pump is working - i presume you have a mechanical pump on this van? mine's electric so easy to check, i'd have thought blocked jet would restrict running rather then prevent it, it sounds like this isn't firing at all?

I'm sure you'll find it is fuel related. If it ran for a while and then just cut out, it was probably just running off whatever fuel was left in the line before it ran dry.

As has been said, check for blockage / dirty filter etc.

I`ll jump on the fuel supply as well. Just because your fuel guage says whatever, 'Don`t Trust It' , check your fuel supply from pump to carb first, make sure you got a very decent squirt. If you don`t ,,then you can work backwards from there, and if you do, then you can work forwards from there like trying a capfull of fuel straight down the neck of the carb and trying again.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,, Let us know how you get on

It may be the choke stuck on. Try cranking it over with the throttle to the floor and it may fire up after a bit.

I started my bus and it cut out after 10-15secs. I couldn't get it started again and tried many things. Opened the throttle fully (to get max air intake) and it fired up.

Worth a try.

I had exactly the same thing about a month and it turned out to be the electronic ignition. I removed the accuspark one fitted 2 years and installed a power spark one (£80) but it's been well worth it. It's even bought the revs down, excellent piece of kit
