Hi everyone.. been having probs with the engine for a while now, need to sort it. i'll try an describe things as best as i can, see if anyone can shead some light on things..
On a run if we get on the motorways an get up to 65 somtimes 70, after about 15 mins the oil preasure drops right down, we lose power an get a really loud tappetts rattle. if i ease off the revs the rattle goes but try an make her work evan a little an the rattle is there.. after around 15 mins or so of plodding like this the preasure rises the power comes back an the rattle goes.. odd..!!! then the cycle continues...

tried various things but a thought at the mo is, take out the thermastat alltogether so the vents are permenantly open an getting constant air to the heads an keeping them cool...????

does this suond right..?? speak your mind, if i'm a tit an got it wrong.?? feel free to say so..??

Sounds like you have a serious overheating problem.

What type / size of engine is it?
Any mods from stock? 009 dizzy?

What about the three T's - Tinwear,Timing & Thermostat?

Picture of engine may help also.

Removing a thermostat is a bad idea. Keep it in there if it isn't causing your problems. Removing it temporarily would enable you to check it isn't. They rarely fail in the flaps shut position though.

as has been said sounds very much like overheating, is all the tinware in place and properly fitting, no hot air creeping up....?

correctly timed?

what oil are you using and what state is it in /how old is it?

fan belt tension/wear?
