Just bought this new gadget for my bus (well you've got to treat yourself now and then)

http://i615.photobucket.com/albums/tt236/stirlingmoz/VDOengtempwarning.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Problem though.

I need to source and oil temperature switch.

Any idea where I can find a suitable switch, perhaps to replace the sump plug ?

Thanks

Hi,stirlingmoz
ive got a sump plug sender i`m not going to use if you want it,pm me your address if you want to try it
i`ll put it in the post for you F.O.C.
cheers, phil.

I have just boought a switch, I thought it was the same as a sender! whats the difference?

I'm not an electrical ace but I understand the sender passes a varying current which is read by the guage to give you a reading of the oil temperature.

A switch would be normally open but when the oil reaches a predetermined temperature, the contacts would 'make' illuminating the warning light.

I think thats why I need a switch as opposed to a sender.

I think it would be similar to the switch in the cooling systems of water cooled cars.

When the coolant reaches a certain temp, the switch makes and the fan cuts in.

P.S Phil (Bluebay)..Very generous of you. I will see how the thread pans out before I take you up on your offer.

I think I may have found the answer to this conundrum.

Gene Berg make an oil temperature sensing dip stick

http://www.geneberg.com/product_info.php?cPath=5_118_2734&products_id=265" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Apparantly Gene Berg is not an advocate of what they believe are inaccurate guages so they supply this dip stick which illuminates a warning light when the oil reaches a predetermined temp.

Next question is does anyone import Gene Berg stuff to the UK ?.
