Hi just fitted a rev counter with shift light.
It's a 1600 engine what would I set the rev shift light 2
I think around 4500 to 5000 revs.

Any info would be great.

good luck with that mate!!!!

id set it about 3800 that gives you time to let off before you get to carried away man well thats what mines set at .

im sure there will be a few other ideas cum along about your 4500 -5000 setting fella
think it may be a bit high for a stock motor

john the horse

That's for that.
Is not a standard 1600 is has twin 40 webers and electronic flame thrower 1 fitted as well.
If that makes any difference .
Thanks Richard.

im normally wrong i my suggestions, like the time i suggested to get married to my ex wife, but i here the red line is 4200+/- if any help to ya , ive learnt the hard way engine wise and the first one too

Depends on your bottom end, what type of crank, has it been balanced etc.
VW sold a rev limiting rotor arm for 1600s that was limited to 4.5k so I guess they were
expecting people to hit that occasionally but probably not bouncing off it for miles & miles!
So if it's stock then that should be your max and something less for normal gear changes.

Edit: mine is set to 5.5k but I've got a fully balanced bottom end with a counter balanced 74mm stroker crank ;)

All due respect mate that is a stock 1600 motor with twin carbs. Unless the bottom end is balanced with a counterweight crank, rods etc along with a better oil system and cooling I'd set the shift light for quite low revs....

Ok thanks for all the info.
Not sure if it has a balanced crank etc.
So will set at 4k to be safe.
Thanks for all the info you guys have given.

im running a 1641 tp electronic ignition 009 dizzy 4 into 1 header with twin kadron 40,s got the revs set at 4000 rpm i normaly change up well before that but if i push it a bit i know im still safe when the change light comes on. i get 70 mph at 3800 rpm in 4th but i wouldnt hold it there and cruise her on 3200 rpm to 3500 rpm that gives me about 55 to 62\63 ish once i start pushing over 3500 rpm im using a fair bit more fuel for virtullay no gain but as daft as it sounds and i know someone will probaly say .coblers. but im getting better fuel economy out of the twin 40,s than i ever got out of the single solex 34.. :?
