Hi all,
Probably a stupid question but, is there a simple way of fitting the pedal grommets on a 68. I thought they would unscrew on the pedal rubbers like they do on my vintage car to slide over.

I'm getting fed up with the draught going up my trouser legs now!!!

Cheers
Rob

You have to undo the pedal from under the bus and fit them.

From memory the rubbers actually fit under the bus. This way they "seal" when the pedal returns to its neutral position.

Yep, a pretty quick job. You can also get a foam seal that goes inside the bus.

Ahhhh, it's not just me then. I have the same issue. Ended up splicing the seal to get it in, but that just ruins it. IIRC, I'm sure I looked that unbolting the pedal would make no difference, as there was a larger shape below still, which the grommet wouldn't 'slide over'. Pics of this and details would be great. Such a small and trivial thing, but thought would be easy. I was in a rush though.... so may have missed something obvious.

Take a look at the vw heritage website under pedals etc and on page 2 you will see the diagram. Just a bolt at the bottom of the pedal under the bus and you can lift the pedal out and fit the seal over the lower part in the comfort of the living room over a brew (it stretches over the flattened bit). Drop it back through, do it back up and bobs your uncle......

You can see where I fitted mine just about on this pic. Not easy, but it stretched over the flat plate that the bolt goes through. Just push up to the floor with the pedal in its return position.
