Evenin' folks,

I've just taken the clutch off my engine and I'm just wondering what the tell tale signs are of when a flywheel is on it's way out.

The contact area on the flywheel is shiney and smooth although it isn't exactly flat, i.e. it has undulations, a bit like the ripples on a pond after dropping a stone in. Is this normal? I've no idea how many miles the flywheel has done.

Is it worth changing?

Cheers,

Ian

I'm no expert, but I think the main areas for concern are the
dowel holes (still a tight fit ) and the oil seal surface (on the other side),
and the starter teeth on the outside.

If you're concerned then you could get it skimmed at a machine shop,
probably. Without seein the 'undulations' you can't really tell but it doesn't sound all that bad.

Cheers

James

you would probably be better getting it skimed or a new one if your worried. the surface should be virtually flat. any "waves" are from wear n tear, a bus is a big old beast when loaded up.
its a lot easier to change it now rather than pull it out because you nuke the clutch or get a judder on take off

if you do get a new flywheel, do not get a lightened one unless you have a counterweighted crankshaft, otherwise your engine will live a shorter life!
