Front axle removal help!!'

Hi guys.

According to my bentley manual and all research the axle should now just drop out.

All linkages off, cables out the way etc.

Does this plate pull off?! It is pretty solid!!

Is it possible that the waxoyl and 43 years of muck have fused it to the van?!?

Any assistance most appreciated!!!

You'll need to get the big hammer out, and with the aid of levers it'll come off.
Put something under it to cushion it as it comes off, not anything attached to you preferably.

Make sure also that both sides come down evenly or it'll get wedged. I used a trolley jack under the steering idler and lowered it an inch at a time as the beam touched it.
