Hi, I've already searched and found that someone else had this "issue" and Red 9 do a part that can be used (£55 + £10 shipping).

However, as standard were some front beams supplied without these? One thread suggests they were?

Can anyone clarify this?

It's a 1969.

You mean like this one were the actual lug or "sticky out bit" has been removed so you can't attach the upper and lower bump stops.

Wonder if they ever left the factory like that

No.

Without bump stops there is nothing to limit the suspension movement until something else gives.

Depending on what has been done to the bus this limit will be one of four.

1. The tyre will hit the top of the wheel arch which can cause it to lock.

2. The shock absorbers run out of travel which will damage them.

3. The ball joints run out of travel which will damage them.

4. Parts of the body/chassis hit the road which will deflect the vehicle.

This it why there are bump stops. Not having them should be an instant MOT fail.

I run a 4" narrowed beam on my bus. I had to fabricate bump stop mounts as I wasn't happy with how it worked without them. Just another example of compromise in the design of aftermarket parts :(

If I wanted a standard width beam, I'd buy a rust-free import beam rather than that JK one. Just my 2p ;)
