I completely ballsed up my front panel repair. I was trying to keep most of the OG panel so I bought a good quality bulge repair section (forget where from but the green panels) problem is it ended at the bottom of the bulge when it has a bend and becomes the flat part of the panel, I should have known trying to join there would end in tears and it has, I have an uneven join and I doubt I'll ever get a nice crisp bend there again. I also replaced part of the edge of the front panel where an ariel has allowed water in and rotted out where it wraps around the A pillar, due to the difference in steel thickness this isn't a great join on the A post either.
I'm starting to think I should just replace the whole front panel and join it with my new lower front which is already fitted. I could go for a cut but I don't need all the stuff I have seen them come with, just the front panel from above the indicators. Any other ideas?

This^ A good one can be quite annoying with the ease they put it right.

just replaced complete front panel on mine, it had a late bay high indicator front on it when i bought it, so had that chopped off and got new front panel kit from Just Kampers.

But when the panel kit arrived it had late bay indicator holes and raised centre for the badge, the guy who done my resto work (Tony) cut the new panel below where you meant to weld bottom early bay section and he cut his own early bay indicator holes in the panel, he also cut the bulge out of the new panel to make it flat as per early bay front, and fitted the indicator blanking plates.

not sure where you located but Tony did a great job, i got a couple of pics i can post on here have you got a pic or two so i can compere?

you used to be able to get a screen repair that came down to grill ,dont know if its still available?

Not the best pictures but hopefully you can see the mess I made :(
I'm not taking it to anyone, I've done everything myself and will fix this!

So heres what should be a nice crisp line:

So the panel mentioned that goes to the top of the air vent will allow me to replace this, but theother problem is where the replacement panels are so much thinner than the OG metal, where it wraps around the A post, I have a horrible difference/step, this is making me think I need to replace the whole front panel.

These pics are looking down the a post/door join where I have repaired the edge of the front panel or replaced the lower front panel.
Ignore the huge door gap, Its just chucked on.

Hi Mags, Firstly well done on trying the work yourself and for not wanting to take it to someone else to sort. I have seen a lot worse and I'm sure many others have too. With the windscreen bulge I would grind back any paint/filler well away from the join. Then using a 1mm cutting disc, gently grind back until the shape starts to come right again. It may mean that you go right through the welds in places but that is ok! weld them up again and grind away. It will take sometime but concerntrate on the worst bit first and you will see the greatest improvement to motivate you on. Unfortunately on the side of the panel you really need to match up the edge first and then scribe around the repair patch to get the cut line. I would take the repair out carefully, as you can't effectively move the fold without causing a mess, line up the outer edge properly and then put it back in. When the piece is out I would tack another piece onto the side to increase the repair piece and grind it to a nice finish before offering it back up.

Hope this helps, it will take time and patience but you are nearly there.

Regards, Si

this is the panel from schofields that goes down to the vent and it is thin the same as the front panels. we had masive problems lining up the nearside swag line and a friend is having the same problems with there complete front panel. it took hours to line up this panel and the screen being trial fitted to check the lip was even.

Thanks guys, I may try the first option using the thin cutting discs before hacking it off for a repro panel. It would be nice to save what I have already done seeing as the panel wasn't cheap and is better than the Klokkershit ones.

Hi,
Stay away from the Schofeild bulge panel. They are very poor quality. Get a funky Green panel. These fit perfectly.

That is exactly what I did, unfortunatley I was stoopid and cut the OG panel where the bulge meets the flat and have welded along here and lost the nice clean fold, D'oh!
