Another general query,

After my last few trips I've noticed grease stream marks coming out of the bearing dust cover. I took off the covers to find them full of clean grease. The question I have is when greasing the front axel beam should this grease go all the way through the bearing and fill the cap and the stream is just heated grease escaping, or is it a sign that the bearing seal is on its way out?

Thanks

No, the beam is totally separate from the spindles and hubs.
The front wheel bearings must be packed with grease during assembly so both inner and outer races are lubricated. The grease cap should be full of grease as well.

Just another point, when greasing the front beam the weight must be off the wheels, so your bus needs to be jacked up.
Count the number of pumps of the grease gun until grease is seen coming out of the axle tube seals, and then pump the same number of times to fill the beam with fresh grease.
It's a messy job, so put newspaper or similar down to catch the old grease.

Thanks thats great, do i periodically take the bearing dust cover off and repack as i can't see a greasing point?

Pretty much. I do it as part of a 12 month service.
Just make sure you use the same type of grease that is currently on the bearings, or you will find it will break down and go watery..

Ok, i'll re-grease in the morning! I think i'll renew/clean up the covers in the hope that stops the leaking
